June 2020

  • The meeting of the PhD convent 2020 is over and we have some new (and some old) PhD representatives. Thanks to all that participated in the election and especially to those who volunteered to candidate as PhD representatives! For those of you, who want to recapitulate the information provided within the meeting, the presentation slides including the election results can be downloaded by following this link.

May 2020

  • We fixed a date for the annual election of your PhD representatives: June, 15th at 17:30. Due to corona precautions, the election will take place online via a video conference. Thus, you can click in very relaxed from your sofa, get the latest news for your PhD and support the upcoming PhD representatives with your vote. See you then!

April 2020

  • The annual election of your PhD representatives was scheduled for the end of April. However, due to the assembly restrictions along with the Corona pandemic, the general meeting required for this cannot take place. We will inform you as soon as we have found a solution for conducting the elections.

April 2019

  • Information evening about time limited employment contracts on 09.04.19 (17:00 lecture hall zoology): The staff council will report about legal issues. Additionally, we will provide a short information about the new teaching record forms and the election of new representatives will take place.

December 2018

  • PhD info evening on 11.12.18: We reported from the new developments during 2018 and discussed about current issues. The slides of our presentation you can find here. See also "PhD representatives report 2018" for a short summary. Be avare that we can grant no guarantee for the correctness of the legal issues. Also, the PhD convent voted for postponing the next representatives' election to April 2019 to harmonize the election periode with the one of the university.

January 2018

  • Information evening with Staff Council and election of new representatives: on Monday the 15th of January we organized an information evening with three members of the Staff Council (Personalrat). They answered questions by PhD students about working and contract rights, PhD regulations, the relationship between PhD candidate and supervisor, etc. Thanks a lot to Helmut Waller, Oliver Trachte and Stefanie Hättich, for supporting us with this inforrmation evening (in English). If you have anymore questions to them or want to make an appointment for personal meetings, find all information and contacts on their website. Additionally, we were holding elections for new PhD representatives. Thanks for everyone who attended the meeting to vote and especially to our new representatives. You will find their names and faces soon on our homepage!

November 2017

  • EduDay: on Thursday, November 16, you – Master students, starting and future PhD candidates – are invited for a talk and exchange with Higher Education experts and senior academic staff from the US, from EUCOR – The European Campus Universities and from Industry about graduate education, the role of graduate schools and the topic of skills‘ education and skills‘ needs. More information about this day can be found on this website.
  • Career Evening: this day aims to broaden our ideas about future career perspectives. For this the organizers invited scientists from diverse backgrounds with careers beyond Academia to tell us their stories. It will take place on the 24th of November (Friday) at 16:30, in the Großer Hörsaal Innere Medizin at Hugstetter Str.55.

October 2017

  • Lecture series: Good Experimental Design: Pitfalls & Solutions. This lecture series are targeted to clinician scientists and experimental scientists who are actively involved in lab research. It offers you the opportunity to learn about good experimental design from experienced researchers to improve quality and reproducibility of your research data.

August 2017

  • On August 8th at 6pm in the 'Größer Hörsaal' of the Biology Faculty II/III, we are organizing a PhD-only info session about the Ombuds process with Dr. David Wilmes and Tina Lampe (IGA), who are both Ombuds assistants of the University. The Ombuds process exists to resolve conflicts resulting from the relationship between doctoral candidates and their supervisors or work on the dissertation. Please take a look at this website it advance - the meeting should be an open discussion, where you can ask all the question you have about the Ombuds process.

July 2017

  • Good news: a list of all student courses which need supervision by PhD students are now listed in the HISinONE system (in addition to the 'Oberseminare')! Find more info under 'Oberseminare' & Teaching
  • On Friday the 28th of July, we have the Fakultätstag/ Fakultätsfest at the Faculty of Biology. Make sure to stop by for a lecture or a beer in the evening!
  • In November 2017, there will be the symposium 'EnergieCampus' as part of the idea contest 'Meine Stadt von morgen: Wie sieht die Energielandschaft der Zukunft aus' at the KIT Karlsruhe (Stiftung Energie & Klimaschutz Baden-Württemberg). Find more information here and via this website
  • The Introductory Lecture Series on Epigenetics in the winter semester 2017/18 will take place Mondays from 10am - 12am in the 'old anatomy lecture hall', located in the FRIAS building, Albertstr. 19 (building No. 24 on this map). Lectures will be in English and constant attendance (min. 12 times) will be acknowledged as 'Oberseminar'

May 2017

  • We added the section 'Oberseminare & Teaching' with a list of all 'Oberseminare' in the current semester. Also we are planning to collect vacancies for teaching positions in practical courses - so if you know any courses which are still in need for PhD students to supervise them - please let us know and share the info on our website.
  • The 'Freiburg Research Services' are offering Brown Bag Lunches in the summer semester 2017 in the context of a PostDoc qualification program (information about Tenure-Track professorships, childcare at the University, possibilities for your academic career,...) - some meetings are also open for PhD students. So check it out if you are interested!

April 2017

  • On Friday the 28th of April (6pm), there will be an information evening (+discussion) by the 'Rektorat' about the excellence initiative at the 'Haus zur Lieben Hand' in the city centre Freiburg. Find more information here

  • The March for Science on the 22nd of April was a huge success. Thanks for everyone who participated. The March for Science in Freiburg was mainly organized by PhD representatives from the University of Freiburg and supported by many students, professors, our director and other people, who value freedom and independence of science. Thanks a lot!

  • The submission period for 'Scholarships as per the State Law on Graduate Funding'/ 'Promotionsstipendien nach dem Landesgraduiertenförderungsgesetz' is starting in the beginning of April 2017 - find more information in the section Scholarships & Funding

February 2017

  • Register now for the event: "7. FORUM Patientennahe Klinische Forschung - Wissensmanagment in der Medizin" by the University Clinic Freiburg on the 22nd of February 2017. Find more information to this and other events here.
  • On the 2nd of march 2017 we are organizing a gathering of all PhD candidates of Biology: 6pm in the small lecture hall in the Biology II/III (Schänzlestraße 1). We are also going to elect new PhD representatives. Please join us for this meeting - we are looking forward to seeing you!

  • In June 2017, the Forum BIOtechno Grand Est 2017 is taking place at the parc d'innovation in Illkirch/ Straßbourg - an event from and for PhD students. You can enroll now!
